2011 Weddings

For our first post of 2012 it is good to look back over the last 12 months.It has been a very good year for Samantha Capitano Photography, and we have had the pleasure of working on some fantastic weddings both in London and Italy. Our new studio in Sicily (Via Manzoni 101, Agrigento) has taken the island by storm -- we have attracted a lot of attention for our unique contemporary style developed in London, and the new ideas we are bringing to the concepts of studio photography.
We have done some wonderful commercial works too (details in upcoming posts): in London we worked for the international architectural practice KSS Design Group based in central London (right on Oxford Street) and the interior design company 'Fox Linton', and in Italy we did a commercial shooting for Villa Athena Hotel, an exclusive and intimate luxury hotel in Agrigento with a stunning view over the famous Valley of the Temples. So we ended the year on a high note and look forward to doing some wonderful work for our clients in the next future!

Roxane and Guy's wedding

It occurred to me that I haven't blogged about weddings this year ... so time to start right now!
I shot Roxane and Guy's wedding at the end of March, and although it was still winter we were very lucky with the weather -- they had a warm and sunny wedding day!
Roxane and Guy are huge fans of Arsenal. They live in the old Arsenal stadium which got transformed into apartments when the team moved to the new Emeriates stadium, and keeping the football theme Guy actually popped the question with a plaque on the pavement which had been engraved with "Darling Roxane will you marry me"!
The wedding was very emotional for both of them and their families, they got married at the St Mary Magdalene Church in Holloway Road and Roxane came to the church in a horse-drawn carriage. The evening was wonderful at the Emirates Stadium with reception and speeches and first dance, really a unique venue and a very special place.
Their wedding will be also featured in the coming months in the Wedding Day Venues Magazine.

New studio in Italy

Claire and Peter's Pre Wedding

I just want to share these photos of this pre wedding photo shoot I did with Claire and Peter, a lovely couple from North London. The photo shoot took place on a very miserable rainy day but the results came good! We started at St Bartholomew Hospital in West Smithfield, which is where Peter was born, then we moved to Smithfield market, where Claire and Peter have work connections and we finally ended up at St Paul's Cathedral. Hope you like the photos!

Irene and Francesco's Pre Wedding

I took the photos of this post a couple of weeks ago at the beautiful Relais Briuccia, in the small village in Sicily where I come from. Irene and Francesco decided to have their pre-wedding session at this astonishing venue, which also has a restaurant run by international chef Damiano Ferraro. Hope you like the photos!

Summer is finally here and as every year this is a very busy time indeed. Apart from shooting weddings and portraiture sessions, I have been working on some architectural work for an international practice in central London. Plus we are working on our new website -- actually it is still being updated but if you would like to have a sneak peek, here is the link: www.samanthacapitano.com.

The last two months have been full of fantastic news and new projects: I have been featured in some UK and Italian magazines/websites: Perfect Wedding on sale in May, twice in Wedding Flowers Magazine, Fifties Wedding Blog on line and the Italian newspaper "La Sicilia". Also we are almost ready to open a second studio in Italy and are getting ready too for a new exhibition that will be held this August. Lots of work!

The photos of this post are from a photo shoot I did with this fantastic couple, Elisabeth and Nevio. I was very glad to shoot some photos of them at the beautiful park in Ilford close to where they live, and it was lovely to get to know this lovely couple better. Elisabeth is from Nigeria and Nevio is Sicilian; they met in Palermo while Elisabeth was actually living in Rome and then they decided to move to London where they are now based and are expecting a baby. Good luck to them!! :-)

Karen and Russell's Pre Wedding

Karen and Russell are a lovely couple and are getting married soon at the Chelsea Old Town Hall in London. These photos are from the pre-wedding photo shoot that we did at the end of March. We spent the day around the City near the Royal Exchange: starting with photos at the Gherkin, then we found a small church with a lovely red door and finally we finished up having a lot of fun at the Leadenhall Market. All in all it was a lovely day, and we were so very lucky with the weather too!

Hope's Birthday

I had a great time last week taking photos of Hope and her friends at her Birthday party. They chose to do the photo shooting at Hope's home rather than at my studio, so I brought my portable backgrounds and lighting and we had a wonderful time. Even mum Sue and Dad Jonathan had a lot of fun, and I got a happy email from them to say they are over the moon with the photos!
It always feel good to have happy clients :)

Roxy and Guy 's Pre Wedding at Emirates Stadium

I first met Roxane and Guy last year when they were looking for a photographer for their wedding day. Within minutes of meeting I was struck by what a fantastically unique couple they are!
Roxy and Guy are both die-hard supporters of Arsenal, and are so enamored with their club that they actually live in the old stadium (it was converted into homes when the team moved to the new Emirates Stadium). But it doesn't stop there ... their wedding reception is going to be in the new Emirates stadium .... wow wow wow! So obviously their pre-wedding photo session just had to be near the stadium too! What a fun day we had, even if the weather wasn't exactly on our side.
Oh, and did I say how Guy popped the question? You would never guess ... If you happen to be walking near the stadium one day, have a look and you might just see a plaque in the pavement just in front of the entrance which simply says: "Darling Roxane, will you marry me".
WHAT A COUPLE! Can't wait to see their Wedding ;)

Wedding Anniversary: 60 years together!!

Just a quick post about this lovely Wedding Anniversary.
I was in Italy over Xmas, working a lot, but enjoying the 20 degrees of sunshine too (!). I was really happy to do a session with a lovely couple celebrating their 60 years of marriage on the 26th of December.

Just a little update for friends and family about my baby boy Max ... Max is now 8 months old and he is a very happy baby. He also seems to have a very strong character as you can see from the photos ... you won't be surprised that my fav one is the one where his face is all scrunched up and moody!

Elisa and Daniele's Pre Wedding... meet the eyes!

Well, well, well... what a week! First of all, I just want to say a huge thanks to Martin Grahame-Dunn from The Academy - Images2Inspire for the brilliant and inspiring day we spent together last week. I have known Martin for quite a while and he is constantly following and inspiring my photography.... thanks Martin!
That said, another great day was had for Elisa and Daniele's Pre Wedding. They are getting married in London but have lots of guests coming from Italy. I am really looking forward to their wedding now. Elisa is from North Italy and works as a brand manager for a company that manufactures Eco-friendly furniture. Daniele is Sicilian and works as a management consultant for a major bank in Canary Wharf. They have been in London since 2007, living in Angel and enjoy favourite places like Camden Passage and its vintage market (where Elisa is always on the look out for a good bargain!) and Regents Canal with its boats and pubs overlooking the water and that "relaxed Sunday afternoon feeling".
They love London very much and I think it comes through well in their photos. Oh, and notice their eyes -- they have these incredible colourful eyes and even their lovely cat Diesel has huge shining green eyes too :)

Amelia and Giuseppe's Wedding

Apart from doing exhibitions in Italy and chatting and meeting new and old friends, I also had to work too... :)
This beautiful wedding took place about a month ago, Amelia and Giuseppe are a lovely young couple that held a great wedding (more than 250 guests!) with the reception at the Parco Chiaramontano "La Segreta" within the Castello di Siculiana, a castle built around 1300 on top of a hill in the centre of Siculiana.
The venue was absolutely amazing ... and the food too :) I hope that the photos will give you a feel for that Italian elegant shining style!

Montallegro Exhibition

I cant' believe we are almost at the end of Sept... the summer has gone quickly but for me it was so full of events that I don't know where to start.
First of all, after lots of my Italian clients were asking me to stay in touch more, I set up a facebook page which you can follow to see my recent works and to keep up to date with my photography. Here is the link: Facebook
Throughout August I was working in Italy. I put on a super exhibition in Montallegro -- it's my home town, being a village near Agrigento of about 2500 people so you won't be surprised that I know almost everyboby (how different from London!).
The exhibition was absolutely great, we had articles in local and regional
newspapers, and got noted on some of the most important Agrigento websites
where you can see some pictures and some articles. The opening was on the 11th and we keep busy for about a week. The exhibition was such a success that we then moved it some other villages nearby. Here are some photos and links!

The in Wedding Show

Just a quick note about a big Wedding Show I'll be part of this September the 5th. "The In Wedding Show" will be held at Alexandra Palace in London and is sponsored by John Lewis, Wedding Tv and Your London Wedding Magazine.
The show opens at 11am and it will have fashion shows, giveaways and competitions and more. I'll be there with my company in stand 54, so do please come over to say hello and have a chat about my photography and see my albums.

Del'Aziz Flamenco Show

Although Max is keeping me very active nights and days, I finally am back in the saddle...
If you don't know Del'Aziz in London, I would strongly recommend that give this restaurant/bar a try -- some of the best and yummy cakes in town. In particular, at the Del'Aziz in the Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, every Tuesday night you can see their Flamenco Show with live Mediterranean music from Manfredi Gelmetti.

Manfredi is from Rome and he has regularly performed with his own company at Rome locations such as Teatro dei Cocci, Teatro dell`Orologio, Ambra Iovinelli, Olimpico, Palladium, Cometa Off.
Born with a passion for acting and dancing, Manfredi started attending acting classes from an early age with the well known Beatrice Bracco, Acting Coach Ilza Prestinari (who was taught by Lee and Pola Strasberg) and international acting coach Fioretta Mari.

When he moved to London he began attending dancing classes as well at the Dance Attic Dance Studio in Fulham where he participated in different musicals, but finally found Flamenco to be his real love. Besides performing every week in Flamenco shows Manfredi has been participating in the production of "Carmen" at The Royal Opera House 2009-2010, and has played the roles of Gypsy and the bullfighter and "Utopia" for the 2010 International Dance Festival held in Birmingham. Next December he will be on stage at the Bridewell Theatre with his own show called "Mediterranean Arts Experience", which aims to be a blend of Theatre, Flamenco and Contemporary dance, together with live Mediterranean music and Literature.

Hilarious wedding moments

January and February have been two great months! I've been busy attending conventions and seminars to get the latest news in the industry, plus working on updating the website and meeting lots of couples who are getting married this year.

I'm looking forward to photographing a lovely wedding in Italy and another gorgeous couple's wedding next year in Italy too ... so watch this space! I love Italian weddings for many reasons... as a photographer I'm intrigued by the outstanding locations couples choose for their day, and as an Italian I'd have to say that I just love the food at the venues :). That said, the thing I miss most from the British weddings are those hilarious moments during the speeches -- it's something that the Italians don't do. We just don't use the tradition in Italy, which is such a pity
since having seen lots here in Britain I think that they play such an important part in the wedding day, whether they are the cheeky funny speech by the best man or the intense and emotional speech from the groom.
Well ... here are few of my faves!

Crazy about details

Here I am with the first post of the New Year ... Hope all of you had a

great time over the holidays! For me it was a big surprise to come home to find London under the snow after having had very good weather during our short break in Italy.
The photos of this post are all about the sorts of details I like to snap during a Wedding day. I like to take time to get these just right because they really tell us a lot about all the effort that couples put into making their wedding as creative and unique as possible.
As an Italian I am always in awe at the beauty of the British wedding cakes. I always wonder how they can build this curious tower of sweetness which truly seems a work of art. Take a look at the cakes of Robin Campbell (Cakes by Robin and London Cake) and I bet you'll be amazed like me!

The Purple Bride

My New-Year Resolution is going to be to blog more, but the last few months
have been really busy, so I'll excuse myself! Let's start the winding down of 2009 with this funky winter wedding I shot in London few weeks ago.
I am very pleased to say that the wedding has also been featured on the
amazing Rock'n roll Bride Blog under the post Purple Rain.
Deborah and Nick from Highgate held their wedding ceremony at the Pitzhanger Manor-House in Ealing, with the reception at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum. The Manor-house is a restored villa designed by the famous architect John Soane and is surrounded by the beauty of Walpole Park.The Kew Brigde Steam Museum is run by an independent educational charity and use to supply London with water. It is recognised as an important historic site for the water-supply industry in UK. The wedding day was very intense, emotional and full of interesting surprises. It was amazing to photograph every single colorful detail of the Steam Museum, not to mention the moment that the engine driver started up the water pumps! The Deborah's beautiful purple dress looked perfect, completing a lovely day.
Oh, but I must mention the lighting of the venue done by First Light London and the yummy cheese cake which sat overlooking the guests while they were enjoying dinner.

Ofeliadorme's Concert

I had a chance to take part in a very cool birthday party last week ... It was lovely to take these photos after having had the pleasure of seeing again (after a very long time) a friend of mine from Agrigento who is now playing in an Italian band based in Bologna, Northern Italy. The band is called OfeliaDorme: Francesca is the loveable vocals and guitar, my friend Gianluca plays the bass with Tato and Michele completing the band. They played in London at The Cross Kings pub and have also played in Manchester earlier this year.

Civil & Hindu Wedding at Lanesborough

I just realised that I havent' blogged about weddings yet.... time to make

put that right!
First of all ... one of the London Weddings I shot this year was featured
in the Modern Vintage Bride Blog -- the bride was wearing Joy from
Jenny Packham's 2009 collection and the post in the Blog is under the name 'Joy'.

Another interesting wedding of the year was Jenny and Sam's wedding held at
the Lanesborough Hotel in London. After a very emotional civil ceremony,

they changed clothes to prepare for a Hindu ceremony. The wonderful details
of the furniture at the Lanesborough reminded me somehow of the Italian
film "The Leopard" by Visconti, while the magnificent colours of the Hindu
ceremony gave me plenty of marvellous material to photograph. I must
mention the beautiful flowers prepared by Drake Algar at his shop in St
John's Wood.

Maternity Photo Shoot

Busy, busy, busy ... I almost forgot to mention this great maternity photo

shoot I did about a month ago.

After having had the pleasure of taking Isabella's Wedding photographs last
year, it was really cool to return to take some pics of her new bump!
Happy husband is over the moon that there will be a baby bundle of trouble
around soon!

Irene and Francesco's photoshoot

Back in Sicily last month, I did this photoshoot of Irene and Francesco, a

young couple who are getting married in a couple of years time.
We did the shoot in their countryside home "La Casina Rossa", which is a
small house surrounded by the wild beauty of our land. It was full of
fantastic spots for my photographs.

We had a fantastic time after a very hot Sicilian day, and I was also glad

to meet their little pony Fiore who was clearly quite happy to be the main
subject in some of the poses!

The Thames Festival 2009

in London Bridge. The Festival was very enjoyable, lots of things to see and to do
with the weather lovely too.

Postcards from Sicily

Back in Sicily for some relaxing, I actually worked on a lot of interesting
photography shootings ... don't worry... I will post them soon! I also
found time to snap some "postcard" photographs to remember the summer by --
taken whilst wandering around my village and other amazing places nearby.
Last but not least, I was very glad to see Federico (my husband) getting
back to drawing again after a very long time ... and a lovely subject too:
a solitary tree at the front of our countryside home with its branches
lurching to the left from the wind that always blows in the same direction
across our land.

What a busy month July has been!
Not much time to blog ... Here are some photos from Jenny and Sam's Pre-Wedding.
Jenny and Sam are a lovely couple from Cambridge and are getting married at the

Lanesborough Hotel in London at the end of August.

After spending some time at the London Beatles Store in Baker Street, we
took a pause for a fruit juice and then set off for a stroll through The Regent's Park
where we were overwhelmed by the beauty of the rose gardens,
and the design of this marvellous royal park.

The Phoenix Cinema

The Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley is one of the oldest cinemas in the UK and has been named "the best independent cinema anywhere" by The Guardian. The building is decorated with splendid Edwardian and Art Deco features, and is currently undergoing a centenary project of restoration. Rebecca and Gareth's Pre Wedding

Beccy and Gareth are getting married at Fulham Palace next month.

We had a lot of fun at the pre-wedding shoot on one of the hottest days of
the year so far, but luckily they had their snazzy sunglasses!
We wandered around St Paul's Cathedral, Millennium Bridge and over to the
Tate Modern and got a lot of happy snaps.
